Here’s everything we know about Superman: Legacy, James Gunn’s DCU launchpad with the Man of Steel, from its release date and cast to plot speculation and more.

The DCEU’s days are numbered: The Flash launched the speedster into another universe, Blue Beetle is sort of a halfway house between the old franchise and new era, and we don’t really understand what’s happening with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

While it was previously announced that Henry Cavill would be back as the character, these plans quickly changed after James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new DCEU bosses, decided to take the character in a new direction.

The synopsis, as provided by The Hollywood Reporter, reads: “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned.”

While this isn’t much to go off, it does hint at a very comic book-accurate version of Superman, one that is less dark and gritty than Cavill’s take on the character.

Gunn recently confirmed he won’t be making a “young Superman movie”, so don’t expect a prequel or any sort of origin story.
