Disney+ has spawned a successful wave of MCU TV shows, though Netflix beat them to it first. Daredevil wasn’t just a brilliant introduction of the character for the MCU, it defined superhero TV shows for years to come.

Charlie Cox initially reprised his role as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, before making an appearance in She-Hulk.

In time, fans will get to watch Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, so here’s what we know about the show so far including trailers, cast, and plot details.

Daredevil Born Again: Is there a release date?

Marvel fans are eager to have Daredevil back in his own show

Daredevil: Born Again will release on Disney+ in Spring 2024, as per Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. An exact date hasn’t been announced at the time of writing.

News of the show was first reported by Variety in May, with writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord penning a whole new season of Daredevil for the MCU, coming after the transfer of the show’s rights to Disney in 2020.

According to leakers The Illuminerdi, the show will begin filming in New York City, from February to December 2023.

However, the show shut down production in May 2023 as a result of the Writers Guild strike taking place. Therefore, there is a chance that the expected release date could be pushed back further due to this halt in development.

Daredevil Born Again: Is there a trailer?

No, there isn’t a trailer for Daredevil Born Again at the time of writing, but we’ll update this space once it’s shared online.

However, you can stream all of Netflix’s Daredevil on Disney+ and catch Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the last two episodes of She-Hulk.

Daredevil Born Again: Cast & crew details

Charlie Cox is returning for Daredevil Born Again, alongside Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that Cox and D’onofrio will return for Echo, a spin-off show based on the villain who debuted in Hawkeye. According to their report, Echo will contain a plotline in which Daredevil is searching for fellow Defender hero, Jessica Jones.

Michael Gandolfini, the son of James Gandolfini who played the young version of his late father’s iconic TV character in Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role, as per Deadline.

Other cast members whose roles haven’t been confirmed yet include Margarita Levieva (The Acolyte) and Sandrine Holt (Homeland). However, The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that Holt will be replacing Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, the first recasting of a major character from the Netflix series.

As well as this, many are speculating that She-Hulk will appear in Daredevil to mirror his appearance in her own show. Given that their chemistry and relationship was well received by fans, many are hoping to see the two interact more in the future.

Charlie Cox is also very open to this cameo. Speaking to Metro, the star said “I’ve made it no secret that I’m a huge fan of Tatiana’s and the fun we had on She-Hulk was some of the best fun I’ve had as that character. I thought she was amazing as Jennifer Walters, and I would be a huge… certainly an advocate of her showing up in our show if she’s free and available and willing and all of those things. So I would love for that to happen. I have no idea if that is possible.”

A recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed that Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, will appear in the series and will be portrayed once again by Jon Bernthal. The report also cast doubt that Deborah Ann Woll or Elden Henson will return as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.

Cox also hinted at future cameos from other MCU characters, though was adamant that he didn’t know anything for certain: “I haven’t read anything from any scripts. So I don’t know. I have no idea. But the only thing that’s fun going forward for the Daredevil show is that of course when we were on Netflix, we didn’t have the opportunity to really have the crossovers other than the characters that we knew we had in that Netflix Marvel world.”

“Now that door is wide open to all sorts of possibilities and that, for me, as someone who’s become a great fan of the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s really exciting that that door is open and that we can have cameos from other characters that we couldn’t before.”

Daredevil Born Again: What will it be about?

The plot of Daredevil Born Again hasn’t been confirmed at the time of writing.

The show, titled Daredevil: Born Again, we’re sure that we’ll see Matt Murdock come face to face with Wilson Fisk once more, as their deadly feud to battle for Hell’s Kitchen continues. It’s also possible that we could see legendary villain Bullseye appear, as Season 3 laid the groundwork for his rise to power.

It is possible that the show may do away with the Netflix canon. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Cox said “every now and again, they start back at the beginning of Murdock’s journey as a little boy and they tell the whole origin story again. So maybe we’ll get to do that, I don’t know.”

Speaking to Newsweek, the actor also spoke about the series’ length, stating: “I know that it’s 18 episodes, which is a humongous commitment.”

One major concern that fans do have is that the show will be toned down to fit the Disney audience. And while Cox has reassured fans it will still be dark, the Daredevil actor recently admitted that it will be “less gory” than the Netflix series.

Recently, Vincent D’Onofrio spoke to Newsweek and revealed that the plot lines that would begin in Daredevil: Born Again would continue into a potential a second season. “And, by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want.”

Recent rumors have begun to swirl that D’Onofrio’s Kingpin could begin his mayoral campaign of New York in either Echo or Daredevil Season 1. According to the rumors, this campaign would be focused on cracking down on “vigilante” heroes in New York like Daredevil, Kate Bishop, and Spider-Man. D’Onofrio has also said recently at a panel that he thinks he will “eventually kick Spider-Man’s ass,” adding to the speculation that a Mayor Fisk storyline could be in the works.

Daredevil Disney Plus: What’s happened in the show so far?

Born Again will be the heroes first standalone series in the MCU. However, the character has been brought to TV before. First through the hit Netflix show and then in the first season of She-Hulk. For those who missed these appearances, here’s a quick recap of Daredevil’s live action history so far.

Daredevil Season 1

Netflix’s first season of Daredevil set the foundations for the character. We met his close friend Foggy Nelson, future colleague Karen Page and Matt Murdock’s mentor, Stick. Wilson Fisk is manipulating the gangs of New York, as he attempts to claim Hell’s Kitchen and the city at large for his own. Thankfully, Murdock prevails and is able to send Fisk to prison, for now.

Daredevil Season 2

Season 2 is where things start to get bloody. A crazed vigilante known as The Punisher is taking out the mob, one mafioso at a time. While The Punisher’s ideas of crime-fighting are similar to Daredevil’s, his method of justice is where they clash.

If that wasn’t enough to deal with, Daredevil must also contend with a mysterious organization known as The Hand which is connected to Murdock’s old flame, Elektra Natchios.

Daredevil Season 3

After seemingly facing a watery death in The Defenders, Matt Murdock is severely wounded. While he recovers in the shadows of Hell’s Kitchen, Wilson Fisk negotiates a deal with the FBI to protect his true love, Vanessa.

Eventually, Fisk is freed from prison and begins a campaign to rectify his image to the people of New York. Along his journey, Fisk encounters troubled NYPD officer Benjamin ‘Dex’ Poindexter (aka Bullseye). Murdock must face his demons and truly become the hero Hell’s Kitchen needs to take them both down.
